Em "Ressonâncias", composta em 1983 e dedicada ao pianista americano Elden Little, a exploração dos recursos particulares de reverberação do piano é a motivação de uma peça com forte caráter improvisatório. Destacam-se três grandes seções claramente distintas, seja pela concentração de atividade em determinados registros da escala, seja pelo jogo de intensidade sonora ou pela densidade rítmica. Duas linhas melódicas fugidias, que se as- semelham pela alternância de movimentos ascendentes e descendentes, conduzem a seção inicial. A seguinte, constitui-se de um intenso e envolvente movimento de arpejos que produz o primeiro clímax da peça, desfazendo-se em nova textura bilinear (em movimento lento). Esta, ao adensar-se progressivamente, já sugere a seção final, em que o material melódico inicial é retomado com o suporte de um vigoroso movimento de acordes percussivos, trecho em que os recursos tensivos são extremados. Parece que a força expressiva de Ressonâncias reside na diversidade material. Contudo, a debilidade proposital de afirmação temática não resulta em incoerência, devido à sistemática recorrência dos procedimentos texturais que promove a aproximação e o vínculo entre as seções.

"Ressonâncias", a piece with a strong improvisational character composed in 1983 and dedicated to the American pianist Elden Little, explores the piano’s specific resources of resonance. There are three sections clearly distinguished either by the concentration of activity in certain registers, by the dynamics or by the rhythmic density. The first section is conducted by two fugitive melodic lines, alike in their alternation of ascending and descending movements. The following one constitutes an intense and involving movement of arpeggios which produce the first climax in the piece, dissolving itself afterwards in a new bilinear texture (in a lento movement). The latter introduces the final sec- tion as it becomes progressively denser. The piece ends by the return of the initial melodic material through a vigorous movement of percussive chords, a segment employing extreme tensile resources. "Ressonâncias", therefore, acquires its expressive force from the diversity of material, unaffected by the intentionally – not incoherently – weak affirmation of a theme, since it is the systematic recurrence of texture procedures that creates the links between sections.
